Originally a private Georgian residence, this historic 3* Hotel stands opposite Canterbury's ancient city walls. The Hotel is within easy walking distance of the main City centre, the Historic Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustines Abbey. The Hotel was also home for a short time to Mary Tourtel the creator of Rupert the Bear and features prominently in the Rupert Bear Trail, an informative tour of the City which ends at the Hotel. All 42 bedrooms, including 1 four poster and three half tester's, have en-suite facilities and some are named after characters from the Author, Geoffrey Chaucer's, novel's. The Hotel has an excellent informal dining room, 63 Ivy Lane, which serves modern British cuisine with a French influence during the evening, whilst for Breakfast there is an excellent choice from the comprehensive menu and buffet table. The Pilgrim's Bar/Lounge is open daily from 10.00am and serves food from a Brasserie style menu which is popular with non-residents and residents alike. This light and airy room is fronted by a terrace, complete with tables, chairs and umbrella's, which makes for a relaxing area to unwind after an energetic day's shopping.
